Hello,
My name is Brooke.
I'm a beta and sensitivity reader who loves diving into a wide range of genres, from horror and mystery/thriller to fantasy and dystopian/sci-fi. While non-fiction isn't exactly my forte, I do love exploring celebrity memoirs and am eager to read more of them. I have a soft spot for both young adult and new adult stories, connecting with tales of all age groups.
As someone with dyslexia, I'm really passionate about advocating for literacy, especially for those who struggle with reading like myself. I also believe in being open about mental health and finding solace in characters who grapple with issues like anxiety and depression, offering both my personal experiences and a critical eye.
Aside from my love for literature, I'm all about championing indie authors. I do everything I can to assist them from leaving online reviews, engaging in social media, and buying their books when possible.
By day, I work full-time in email marketing, but I have plenty of free time to read (I like joking that reading is my second full-time job). At home, I live with my two adorable pets - Apollo, my flame point Siamese cat, and Cerberus (or Cerby for short), my faithful corgi companion. I also love my husband, who is my high school sweetheart.
When I'm not lost in the pages of a book, you can find me playing video games, getting lost in Dungeons and Dragons, snapping photos, visiting a theme park, or dabbling in some amateur writing. My life revolves around a deep love for storytelling, creativity, and the wonderful connections we share. I am very excited to talk books and dive deeper into the realm of stories!
Meet Brooke
Sensitivity Reader
We offer sensitivity readings that provide in-depth analysis and insightful feedback. Our priority is to promote awareness and understanding by ensuring that we handle language and representation with sensitivity and cultural competence.
Brooke specializes in providing thorough and insightful sensitivity readings, and conscious language about the following subjects:
Dyslexia
anxiety ( social phobia, agoraphobia, generalized, and panic disorder but anxiety is anxiety at the end of the day and can assist with all sensitivity reads involving a character who has it)
Depression.
While sexual assault or domestic violence hasn't happened to me, I watched my mother and various others in my family and friends to whom I am close suffer from these topics. Which has turned me into a huge advocate for SA and DV education and helping victims. I volunteer a lot of my time to help those who have been through this. So I am very educated on the topics and could help with these sensitivity reads as well.
My husband has ADHD and is autistic. Again, while I am not, I live with him daily and we have been together for 14 years. I've spent much time learning about these disabilities to understand him better. So again, while I don't have these problems, I am very educated on the topics and could help with sensitivity reads in these areas too.
